Why some people won’t accept responsibilities?

In most of the cases, responsibilities were something that a person must be able to undertake or must be able to handle it with credibility and reliability. Responsibility is indeed a big and challenging task to do. However, when someone was appointed for that responsibilities, it means that the person was trusted to do the job and he or she should do it exactly what was needed in order to achieve trust and recognition from the superior. Not many people were given responsibilities to do the task. There are some positive and negative sides of taking responsibilities. But in life, we should never be pessimistic. We should be optimistic by thinking positively in getting the chances of recognition and trust. That is how life should be. Responsibilities are something that people should compete with others for career enhancement and for the better future. All working people should accept responsibilities that were given to them and not to avoid it.

However, there are few reasons why people won’t accept responsibility.

· Fear of failure

Not all people are daring enough to take failure as their step to move forward for the success. They are not aware for their opportunities to improve their abilities through the mistakes that they made accidentally. That is why some people would not accept responsibilities that was given to them because they afraid unable to achieve what was being expected by the superior. However, they should believe that they can do it and make the impossible become possible with good effort and commitment to achieve it. Moreover, they should believe with their abilities. No one would know the outcomes that they might face. It’s up to us to start believing that we can do it and take the responsibility.

· Fear of consequences of the mistakes that they make

Some people are afraid with the consequences that they will face when they are unable to achieve what the superior had given them. Fear for the mistakes that they made is very normal to most of the people especially when it is regarding with competency in work. They afraid that it will affect their job position, insecure job, lack of trust from the superior and even worst being fired by the superior.

· Afraid of rejection of others

Other than that, some people refuse responsibilities because they are afraid of rejection of others. When they made mistakes, they afraid that other colleagues and the superior will reject them for their failure of taking responsibilities. The others might look down upon them and they will not put their trust on him or her again. However, nobody’s perfect in this world. Everybody does make mistakes but they can learn from their mistakes. This can improve more of their future performance.

· Refuse of added responsibilities if they see it simply as meaningless extra works

Some people refuse responsibilities because they don’t want to do meaningless extra work when they see it brings them nothing but another burden to carry on. Usually, they don’t look on positive side of taking responsibility and that is why their job advancement opportunity was lower. Moreover, they are unable to learn something new through taking the new responsibilities.

· Do not want to be given responsibility

Lastly, the reason why people won’t take responsibilities is because they really don’t want to be given responsibility. This is because according to the Theory X and Theory Y, Theory X was the dominant that it covers most of the people in the world. Theory X means that they dislikes works and attempts to avoid it, has no ambition, want no responsibility, are self-centered, resist change and they would rather follow than be the leader. In contrast of this theory X people, are those who take work as something that is worthy enough, they would seek for responsibilities, are committed to the organizational goals and self dedicated to meet their work objectives.
