South Island School, HK

The guests who stay in my house were having their Day 1 breakfast. There are four students (Alan Lock, Charles, Chris Wong and Petteri Taimi) and one part time supervisor, Andrew McCarthy. All of them came from different nationality which are from New York, Finland, Spain, Chinese and Malaysia.

Constance and Petteri students from South Island School, Hong Kong were trying the local delicacies which is known "ambuyat" among the local Malays and "binihigut" among the Kadazan people.

All the students, teachers, staff and the local host family were gathering at the community hall for a short briefing of the Day 1 program. The Dragonfly staff were giving them the briefing.

Dylan the staff from Dragonfly Tour Company trying to open the coconut shell. "Good luck, Dylan".

Finally, he manage to open it but he still have to open again the coconut before he can go to the next process which is the coconut grating :)

After, he had opened the coconut and crush it into two, he and Chase (also the Dragonfly staff) doing the coconut grating in traditional ways. Nowadays, to do the coconut grating is much more easier and fast which it using the coconut grating machine. Let the city boys to it traditional. Hehe :)

This is my grandma teaching the SIS student to make the "atap" or roof. It is looks to easy but it need skills to make it. Meaning that even though you had managed to finish it, but if u don't have the knowledge and skill to do it, it will not be suitable during rainy season ;)

Some of the students climbing up the ladder to take the coconut "fresh from the tree :P" Let them experience to take the coconut. It is so easy to get a coconut in the village but if you go to the city, it will cost you around RM 3 - RM 5.

Drink the coconut like there's no tomorrow. There are two different colors of a young coconut which are orange and green.

Chieku, the Dragonfly staff and my mum were doing the rubber tapping. To tap a rubber, it should be going down circling the tree. It cannot be straight going down because it will harm the tree and it will not produce good quality of latex.

The students are trying the traditional instrument. The "gongs" is easy to learn but the "kulintangan" the small sets of gong that perform as the keyboard instrument is really difficult to learn.

Andrew was trying to do the rubber tapping after been brief by the owner. He did managed to tap it and there's latex flowing. After him, there are so many students also rubber tape the tree and in the end it had spoil the tree..too bad for the tree...hahaha
